Amy Sedaris is just plain fun. It mixes recipes and anecdotes with her signature quirky take on all things social. Great for picking up and opening to a random page.
Dear Amy Sedaris,
I loved listening to this book. You are a true delight!
Now I will go put some marbles in my medicine cabinet🤓😂.
Love,
Allison

I LIKE YOU, TOO, AMY SEDARIS.
I like your recipes, you kitchy 1970's photography (I like you, also, Todd Oldham!), your crafts, your party games, and your face in general.
I also really like that they have recipes written by people I recognize from David Sedaris stories. His boyfriend, Hugh, has a really great recipe for scalloped potatoes.

Quirky giggle fest with some real advice on hospitality. Amy is a weirdo I love to weird out with!
It was...not what I expected - in good ways and simply unexpected ways.
There are a ton of recipes in this book which honestly make me happy. Cookbooks bring me joy.
The humor is along the lines of general Sedaris humor, slightly offensive, sarcastic, cynical but still funny. There are legitimately clever tips and ideas mixed among the delectable sounding recipes and clever quips regarding party ideas.
The book is also colorful and filled with photos. Should you have a Kindle or other eReader, I'm not sure this book would be enjoyed as much in such a format. The photos (although occasionally offensive) give the book added character and make it additionally enjoyable to read.

strange book. I wouldn't cook or decorate the way she suggests. As a matter of fact, there is very little I would follow in that book. But, it was mildly entertaining, even if I didn't find it funny.
Some parts were laugh out loud funny. This book just had so much stuff and I think that some of it was just silly for silly's sake. There is enough that is not really funny that kind of brings down the funny parts.
I listened to this as an audio-book, which was an interesting choice seeing as this was a bit more of a recipe/hosting book than a straight up narrative. I wasn't aware of that at the time. However, despite not really having access to the recipe portion of the book, since I borrowed it from the library, the in-between stories were classically Amy and were fun to hear narrated in her own voice.
Some of the language choices in the this book were certainly of the time in which they were written, but overall, this had a quirky and darkly humorous voice. Amy considers herself to be the ultimate hostess and she absolutely loves entertaining guests of all varieties, but she has her own quirks she's bringing to the table, too. Amy very much seems like she would be a bit of an eccentric Nora Ephron type hostess - prepared for any occasion and any guest, with a litany of surprises up her sleeve.

Not quite done, but probably as far as I am going to get... not what I expected.
Funny, witty, and clever, with some tasty sounding recipes and simple crafts.
