Lovely, fun book. More of a read than a cookbook, but there are recipes. And of course, it's hilarious.
I listened to Amy's audio version of the book, which was rather odd since it's very strange to hear someone read recipes. There were also a lot of sidebars, which were prefaced by a ding of a triangle and Amy saying "Sidebar." Her voices are hilarious, as is the book, but the last cd is pretty much her reading recipe after recipe. Very funny, but a bit awkward, considering that it is a book on entertaining. But the book is full of so many great tips and recipes. I was surprised at how much great substance there was to the book.
I liked the first section of this book, with its rules for hosts and guests. It was both funny and useful. When she started describing parties she threw I began to lose interest. I also didn't read all of the recipes.
This started out funny and some of the recipes I will try. But it got kind of weird and not funny. It seemed like some of it was supposed to be funny, but just fell awkwardly flat.
I didn't really know what to expect going into this, but it was surprisingly hilarious! I laughed out loud through the whole book, and even learned a few things. I made sure to write down a bunch of the recipes before returning this to the library, but I haven't tried any yet. Maybe Smokey Cheese Balls will make an appearance this holiday season...
Probably the most fun cook-and-hospitality-book I've ever had the pleasure of perusing. Time to throw a party!
Amy Sedaris is a comic genius, and gorgeous to boot. I get just a wee bit uncomfortable that she actually made all the creepy things in the book, but this is part of her genius.
I listened to the audio version of this book (read by the author), and while I like Amy Sedaris, I found myself getting annoyed on occasion because it seemed she was trying too hard to be funny. On the upside, some of the recipes sound great, and I'll probably try them.
