Not quite what I expected, but enjoyable nonetheless. The content of the book was sincere, and I think I was expecting some kind of parody book. She was sarcastic and outrageous here and there, but this was a legitimate book, with real recipes and advice and everything! This reads more like a sassy catch-all hostess/cookbook than an actual humor memoir. Still well done, just maybe not marketed/advertised accurately.

This was funny, and I really liked it, but I had a hard time getting through it since it didn't have a continuous plot.

Makes me laugh out loud and has great recipes! A great coffee table book.

Interesting book. Wants to be a "real" cook/entertaining book, while at the same time contains lots of humorous lines. Not for young kids, due to sexual throw-off lines, as well as a section on womanly things. It was a quick book to read, unless you read all of the recipes too. I have not tried any of the recipes, but they look legit.

I Like You is my favorite book to leave out for my cat sitters. I know they will get sucked in and keep my cats company. It's hard to write a review, when the book is a graphic adventure, but what I love is that while hilarious, but I Like You has real advice and real recipes. As Sedaris says herself, she "hates joke cookbooks." She has everything from a great fried chicken recipe to instructions for a self-breast exam. My favorite might be her tips on how to be an Out-of-Town Guest.

*Don't show up with a pet you need to bury

*Never put down your host's town or compare it to where you are from

*Don't steal anything and stay out of the medicine chest.

*If you take a nap, leave your clothes on. Don't get naked and get under the covers. Naps involve clothing.

Etc.

so far its keeping me well-entertained. lots of funny pictures and funny words.

It is possible to entertain, and do it weirdly with panache

Sedaris delivers and wrings her hands in silent anticipation of your praise.

I thought this was going to be more of a funny when this happens at your house do this crazy solution ( but no really here's the mature way to handle it) kin of book. But really it was mostly a recipe book with some lessons on being polite and how to get money out I your guests

I read this (and this isn't just a cookbook, there is a lot to read) in an afternoon. It's still sitting on my radiator, and I've had a few bad days where I picked it up and immediately felt better. I paid full price for this the week after my birthday, because no one gave it to me. The only thing I've made is the pesto- twice. I plan on making "Chicken of the Taverns," because that's a fun thing to say, and the cupcakes becasue I'm sure they are very good. The photos/drawings throughout the book are hilarious. I love it!
