i went into this fully expecting to like it, but didn’t know how much I was going to like it. Obviously it’s an autobiography so I know there could be a certain bias to whatever he was saying but everything felt so raw about it.

He always seemed so down to earth, but maybe that’s the whole like unintentional bias on a celebrity you like. His story seemed so raw, and hearing about his childhood on the Harry Potter sets, whilst also hearing about his “normal childhood” was interesting! I didn’t realise he wasn’t actually on the sets as much as the others, but I suppose if you think about it, it makes sense.

Him being so open about his struggles with addiction and rehab was so interesting to hear as well - I’m glad he’s finally in a position where he’s happy with where he is in life, and glad he still looks back on potter with fondness

I love Tom Felton, but he's not a writer. It felt like reading a 13-year-olds diary. And the Harry Potter puns started to get old.

3.5 stars, to be fair, for me. As I have been with other memoirs and biographies, I acknowledge how privileged I feel to be able to peek behind the curtain of someone else’s life.

When I was younger and much more of a Gryffindork than I am now, I would eagerly devour the special features of the Harry Potter films. I just wanted the life that these kids had so badly, to be able to run around and pretend that you’re magical seemed like heaven to me. So I think I came into this book thinking I might recapture some of that wonder that I felt, but honestly I feel mostly confusion, shock and frankly, a little bit of disgust. Not that this book itself is disgusting, I thought it was really well-written, raw and riveting. It’s just the whole concept of these young, impressionable people being catapulted from the quiet streets of their childhood into the blinding and unforgiving lights of celebrity that is so deeply unsettling. There are almost no other people on this planet that experienced what these kids had to experience, and honestly, it makes me deeply sad for them.

I think my opinions of the films are also an influence on this idea. I have always, even as a child, been annoyed by a lack of creative continuity throughout the series. I had thought this came about by having almost as many directors as there are films, and this sense of disunity and lack of direction bled a little bit into these kids who were on set.

Tom Felton certainly does a great job presenting his story as plainly as he can. He lets his audience in to see the glamorous and also devastating and maybe even boring times creating Potter and beyond. I am grateful that he wrote it. I would definitely recommend it if you, like me, are fascinated by the concept of celebrity and fame, loved Harry Potter, or are a fan of a cheeky bit of gossip.
