Walpole seems to have a Gothic novel checklist kyes, I know it is one if the first, but I'm trying to be funny). That being said, this is a wonderful story that is a fast, yet engaging, read. Walpole's predecessors have taken his delightful concept and have created lasting stories that engage and thrill the reader.

The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole

Book 41/52

This was not good. Someone needs to teach Horace about quotation marks and paragraphs. Alas, it’s an iconic gothic text and I am glad I read it. Some of the imagery was great but in general the plot was far too convoluted and confusing for me. Not a great start to my premodern gothic module reading.
