You may think it’s silly to stop reading a smutty historical romance book because of how smutty it is. But I’m here to tell you that it’s not. I got so bored with this couple I just lost interest.
Also the fantastical elements in this series is so hit or miss. This was a straight up miss that I can barely believe that this takes place in her other series.

I enjoyed Campbell and Clarissa’s story very much. The weakest of the three books so far for me but still well worth the read if you enjoy the series. It could be read on its own, but you will be missing out on a lot of backstory and knowledge about the rest of the family and side characters. And you will have missed out on some lovely Mrs. McBean scenes which is a crime against whimsy.
The love scenes are good but I did skim a bit through them just because I wasn’t in the mood and wanted to get back to the plot

I love Elisa Braden's writing but man this book was a let down. The beginning makes allusions to Campbell being a virgin hero but nope. We get plenty of mentions of his dead love and also his former mistress. Just...why? I wanted him to have to fight for Clarissa (not just her safety). Sighhh.

Unnecessarily convoluted.
Moderate: Animal cruelty, Animal death
I understand why everyone loves Broderick, but Campbell is my babe.
