I randomly picked this up while killing time at the library and was pleasantly surprised by how good it is!

This book follows a group of students who are accepted into the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, which admits only 300 students annually out of thousands of applications. But the students' hard work is only just beginning and they spend the next 6 years earning their prestigious white coats and going from learners to healers.

We follow the group's ups and downs as they each embark on different paths and try to overcome their personal struggles. There was a lot of character development despite this being a quick read. I also liked the diversity, though more representation would have been even better.

My favourite character is definitely Yao Quan

White Coat Tales is a manga that succinctly tells the story of five medical students from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in NUS and their journeys from learners to healers.

Despite their different personalities and learning attitudes, they learn to become better versions of themselves throughout the daunting years of medical school and grow into dependable and matured doctors.

Although the book feels like it is mainly catered for prospective medical students, I think all students, no matter what majors, can appreciate the hard work of the characters and learn from their journeys the importance of humility and diligence. We all need failures to succeed and this cute manga shows us that.
