It's a very sweet story (no pun intended, I promise). Summary and what I think:

SpoilerDulcie the baking-talent fairy is so preoccupied with baking and giving orders that she tires herself out, losing perspective of what it is she really does and why she does it. When sent on vacation, Dulcie discovers a magic recipe which sends her on an adventure for its ingredients. On the journey, Dulcie learns all about Pixie Hollow, the jobs of the fairies, and how much work it takes to make her ingredients. At the end, Dulcie learns to value other fairies' work, to have faith in her own talents, and that her place isn't just in the kitchen but everywhere in Pixie Hollow.

The only issues I have with the story is that Dulcie gets her ingredients in rather sneaky ways (and the book says so, yet never truly addresses it). She follows fairies, hides away ingredients, and does a fair bit of fibbing in the process. In the end, her efforts are rewarded with a beautiful cake filled with magic, and she's never reprimanded for her methods. Not really too hot on that.

The other thing is that the Arbor they find in the forest is said to be where no fairies go, yet it seems Lily and Iris know exactly where it is. When they find it, Dulcie makes a comment that she has no idea when the last time was any fairy had ever been to that place, yet the discovery is made to seem pretty minimal. Yeah they found the super special vine of legend, but that's it. Yay we found it go home and sleep now.

Those things aside, it is a good story. Maybe not one of the best in the series, though.

My friend thrifted and gifted this to me as a joke, because I love the Pixie Hollow movies. I was bored and read it in an one hour english class. A sparkly cover, pretty art, and a fairly interesting plot. I expected it to be boring but ngl was on the edge of my seat half the time. Ginger is a bitch. The ending was extremely unexpected and I was pleasantly surprised.

Maggie enjoyed this read-aloud -- which had a good lesson about appreciating everyone's gifts and not thinking you're the best. If only she could internalize that :)

A quick cute read, would be great for like a 3rd girl. I pick them up when I see them for twenty-five cents at a garage sale.

It's a very simple book to read, though has a good message that young children would be able to understand. I like the book and read it because I had it and reminded me of childhood. Plus I like how it shows that everyone makes mistakes and that they need to take a break from the world if needed.
