The switching of points of view in then middle of chapters constantly stopped me getting into it. Tried to keep going but life’s too short

3.5. Probably one of the better romance novels I've read. It was action packed, clever and sexy.

Mara Reed’s family legacy includes a 1930’s train robbery of Spanish gold that is now hidden. Going on this treasure hunt means a big change in lifestyle for Mara, she’ll no longer have to be nomadic and on the run from the imminent danger she seems to always find herself in. She’s returned to her small town to find clues to the treasure, but the danger has followed and leads her right into the arms to the boy who possibly hates her more then anyone else.
I went into this book blind and it was not at all what I expected. I went in expecting a murder mystery but what I got felt very National Treasure-esque. I really liked the history and deep family connections to all of the major players. It was fun to watch the characters put together the clues and go treasure hunting all while avoiding the danger chasing them!

Not my preferred genre but I figured I'd give Stacey a chance! I prefer her work in politics

Oof. I really wanted to like this bc it’s written by Stacey Abrams and I so admire her. But it was boring and lacking chemistry and used too many descriptive words for no reason. Bummer.

It melds a lot of genres that I enjoy, but apparently my brain prefers these genres to be separate and not all in the same book.

Ugh… this book was difficult to enjoy. I felt like the author used a thesaurus to pepper the text with fancy words.
The plot was ok, the romance was ok, but just ok… there was nothing here that grabbed me. I just wanted to end and sped read most of it.
