What an incredible and devastating journey this was. Zhang wrote this book at the request of her father, who, stumbling across the graves of five Chinese men on a trip to Idaho, asked her to come up with a story for what happened. And so "Four Treasures of the Sky" was born. It's an incredibly inventive exploration of Chinese identity, especially in an era fraught with so much anti-Chinese sentiment. The story takes you from a fishing village in Zhifu, China across the Pacific ocean to San Francisco, over the rocky terrain of Idaho and back again. It truly is a journey of epic proportions.

While the audiobook was seriously irritating (to me) and the story was a bit funky, I respect the intention and do appreciate gaining some added perspective.
