Yet another favorite read for me this year. It's so beautifully written and profound. The story of a young girl's life from China to America and what she went through to survive in a foreign land. She finds early on she can't trust anyone and especially cannot survive as a girl in the streets. The story also paralells what the Asian community sees today, the anti-Chinese and racism towards Asian Americans. It really shows how long it's been since the Anti-Chinese Act and how little we have progressed. This is such a fantastic read and I highly recommend it.

This is not an uplifting book by any stretch. It's well-written and illuminates another shameful part of American history. Hard to say I enjoyed it because of the endless tragedy faced by the main character.
