I liked the characters but the plot felt convoluted at times.

The characters were dry and unlikeable. You never really get an accurate description of what they are feeling. Like, oh we just drug a dead body and buried it but I’m thrilled for more alone time with her…really?! That’s what’s going on in your mind? Just angsty pining away, and constantly saying it was irritating. I DNF’d at 47% because I just couldn’t take the boredom anymore.

Finished on December 27th, 2022
Did I finish this book or did this book finish me? For legal reasons, that is meant in a good way.
I loved that, because this is an adult fantasy novel, you had to piece this world together by yourself sometimes. Looking for the little clues and details to put together things before they were explained further in the stories when it is mentioned by the characters or in the writing of the writer itself. It made for a more enjoyable read.

Wild and Wicked Things has many thing that I love. It has sapphic witches, a lot of secrets, the love and loyalty of finding your found family, people connected through their magic, but I think the thing that I loved most of all was the portrayal of the darkness that comes with magic. The cost of using your magic, the consequences of using it the wrong way, the yearning and pull toward it. But not just the good things of magic, but the power that it gives you - that makes people hungry for it.

I feel that getting to know the characters was sometimes a little chaotic, which sometimes made me feel a little disconnect from some of them - while I absolutely fell in love with others. The book is very slow paced, but it made it possible to set out the atmosphere of the world that the author creates and it gave the space for you to follow along with the growth of the main characters. The writing was absolutely beautiful and I think the descriptive writing, the world building and the well thoughout dark magic - it's consequences and temptation - used throughout the book made me love it a lot.

I will be writing a strongly worded email to the author for that thing that happened at the ending.

The pacing was the main challenge of this book... otherwise it has some great elements... I love the concept, the plot, and the characters in theory but something didn't click for me.

Finally read this after DNFing it close to when I bought it in 2022. While I love the world, the island, the magic system, the rest is lacking. While I like Annie, she could do with more fleshing out. Bea is
Spoilergiven a happy-ish ending that she really doesn’t deserve (love and marriage via magic is rape, but this is never discussed).
Emmeline is rude and boorish and while we’re given excuses, they don’t really fly. I do love Isobel and Nathan, and would have loved to see more of their day to day lives as witches. I was left not really understanding the big magic they do that saves the day as it’s never really explained. All in all a mediocre read unfortunately, that until I hit the last two parts was a slug to get through.
