The disheartening tale of the base of the rechargeable battery supply chain that powers our green revolution.

I no longer give star ratings to memoirs or historical/informative texts. This was very eye-opening and I highly recommend

horrifying. never got over how the unofficial miners were referred to as “artisanal miners” — what a euphemism!

anyways, this is a must-read and will stay with me, I’m sure.

This book is heart wrenching and informative. I had been introduced to this topic through a Joe Rogan episode however I did not realize the magnitude of the situation in the Congo until finishing this book. I wish there was clear direction on what we as people so far removed from the situation could do to help. It makes me frustrated that our government is pushing for 100% electric vehicles in such a short amount of time when there is a more pressing and acute issue that needs to be addressed first. It feels like an impossible situation because electronics are so integrated into our culture it would be extremely difficult to stop production entirely which is what seems to be what is needed in order to stop the human rights violations occurring in these mines. I’m grateful that I read this book and have more knowledge on this issue.

Painful but necessary read. There was a few radical liberalism moments when referencing the US and NGOs but overall, it was very informational.
