We meet Cain in Book one and I knew it was going to be a good story from that. Mystery Hacker that you know was going to be good if he was friends with Tuck and Walker. Kenz we meet in the last book as Little J's new employee. They both has deep scars to deal with.

This I think was the best book yet, the setting is just so set, the side characters we know and love so well, you know there is going to be drama and danger but don't know when or who. The chemistry of these two was off the charts.

Overall, 5 stars, 3.5 steam, and 1 scream! I can't wait for more of these books!!

I love Catherine Cowles and her stories. She has a little bit of everything. This was great! It had a storyline for the FMC that I haven’t seen Cowles do before. Compassionate, strong independent FMC and extremely protective MMC. This was a sweet, decently spicy, quick read!

Honestly, I am not sure where to begin with this review. I have been reading Catherine Cowles words since she debuted. Her words and concepts keep getting better and better. With Beautifully Broken Control, she knocked it out of the park with this one. There are no real words to describe the perfection that she has come up with for this story. It is raw, emotional, passionate and oh so much more. You are taken not just on a journey of self preservation but also the journey of self love.
In this book, you have two very broken souls with Cain and Kennedy. I was intrigued by both of them when we see little tidbits of them in past stories. Seeing their story come together with the hows and whys was just awe inspiring. Both of them come from something so tragic that it breaks you so so much. They are two opposite ends of the whys they are broken, but they seem to find a kindred spirit in each other. This is where the Beautifully Broken Control comes in. You will see that they are both stubborn. Both needing control over aspects in their life. Then things implode and sparks fly in various ways. It leaves you wanting to cry, wanting to rage but also wanting to smile. When things come to a head, they are beyond unique turns that will have your jaw drop and wonder what just happened and to me, that is the brilliance of a perfect story. Being surprised. Being awestruck. Mostly, being wrapped up into the world the author created and never wanting to leave.
Overall, this story is just everything. I really cannot say enough about it because I was just so blown away by Cowles storytelling. The concept. The build. The punch in the story. Just everything. Cowles has magic in her words and honestly, I cannot wait for more from her even though I am super sad that Sutter Lake series is over. But trust me, this one packs a punch!

Hiding a tortured past. Desperate to start over with a clean slate. Cain and Kennedy appear to have nothing in common. And yet???

Cain comes to Sutter Lake to take a break from his corporate lifestyle, continuing to fight his demons, and to reconnect with his “brothers” Walker and Tuck. Kennedy comes to Sutter Lake to start anew with a new last name. A clean slate. To give back and live a simple life with her constantly drooling and snoring, adorable dog, Chuck. She works for Tuck’s wife and Walker’s sister, Jensen. Their paths are destined to cross. Read more about these characters in the previous Sutter Lake Series books! Highly recommend them all.

Kennedy initially wants nothing to do with self made millionaire Cain. Her history being brought up in the wealthy lifestyle now makes her cringe around anyone with money. Cain has never wanted a relationship. His Security Tech Firm is his life and his demons are his alone. Except once they are together as part of the extended Cole family, and Jensen assures Kennedy that Cain is one of the good ones, they begin to gravitate toward each other.

I absolutely adored this couple. Cain’s over protective nature was so sweet as well as heartbreaking due to his past loss. He is drawn to Kennedy and fighting that attraction becomes fruitless. I loved Kennedy’s determination to give back to the less fortunate and her patience with Cain as she gets closer to trusting him and dealing with his secrets was so heartwarming.

As always with Catherine, there’s suspense, danger, surprise twists and your heart will be in your throat more than once. This book grabbed me from page 1 and I’m still thinking about it days later.

Interconnected standalones in a series are becoming my jam, I love making all the connections with the characters. And it's a major bonus when you see your favorites pop up in the later books. Cain and Kennedy's story brings two broken souls together in such a slow burn way that you can't help but devour their story.

Jensen has finally found that family she's been looking for in Sutter Lake even if she couldn't quite say that was the truth. It's tough when you come from home that's just so broken and constantly blaming yourself for the fall of that. I liked that she started a new life in Sutter Lake on where I felt she was truly happy and just care-free. But there's still so much holding her back to fully trust in people.
