This book was a little different. I liked that Cain and Kennedy were not from Sutter Lake, but Sutter Lake embraced them. I did miss the old guys that hung out in the Kettle who were normally so protective of the ladies working there.

It was interesting that there was the complete opposite of "family" where both Cain and Kennedy were concerned. Those homes were so broken it wasn't funny.

There were a few obvious situations. One with Kennedy, and two with Cain. I won't mention names because it would be a dead giveaway. One thing occurred that was a completely unexpected twist.

Cain and Kennedy were an ok couple to me. They spent entirely too much of the book beating themselves up for things in which they had no control.

I did like Kennedy and Chain's bonus scene. I do have one question. What happened to Kennedy and Preston's dad?

UPDATE: I found out what happened to their dad.

Another solid Sutter Lake story!

There's just something special about witnessing a woman fighting for her independence after being badly betrayed by the people who she used to lean on finding a man who seemingly is content with his solitary life but desperately needs to open up to the people who care about him.

And he ends up shedding a tear or two!

I can't wait to get to the next one!

Being in control is what has helped Cain get through the demons from his past. So when a woman knocks his control right off it's axis Cain is left wondering where he goes from here. But there is strength in being together and Kennedy ends up giving him more than he bargained for. Can you fall in love when your life is turned upside down? Or will Kennedy's love be exactly what he needed to put his ghosts at bay? With a wonderful storyline this was a great addition to the series.

I didn't feel as connected to Kennedy and Cain as much as I would have liked but their book was beautiful and I loved both suspense story.

I enjoyed the book and really liked their relationship but the conflict seemed avoidable and Cain needed to grow up even though he’s 10+ years older than her. Also the twist was wild.
