A fun look at a new mother who, while trying to help out her sister, becomes entangled in a murder. Light cozy mystery with laugh out loud scenes involving her baby. Though I enjoyed the story, more emotion from the narrator would have made it even better.

Middle of the road cozy for me. I liked that it veered from the typical formula a bit, but didn't really appreciate the misinformation it presented about breastfeeding. I was really surprised to read several times that alcohol is a no-no while nursing. Do people really still think this?!? There is less alcohol in the breastmilk of a woman who has had a glass of wine than there is in a bowl of very ripe fruit! Not sure if I'll give the second book in this series a try or not. I liked the story, but some of the mom stuff really distracted me.

This is a book that lingered on my TBR pile for years. It was a bargain book at one time for Kindle. I typically shy away from most cozies that have kids. I read it this month for a group read. I was quite surprised to really love this book! I could relate to the main character as a list maker, lists and spreadsheets are my jam lol.

I liked how she decided to become a PI with no experience and was figuring it out along the way. It did bug me a little bit that she was taking her newborn to a bunch of interviews, without truly thinking about her safety. It seemed like an afterthought at times.

I had no idea who the killer was but did enjoy the mystery overall and plan to continue the series.

A real bundle of laughter and heart

When a new baby comes everything is crazy new and fun. But when you don't want to leave the new bundle of joy and go back to work becoming your own boss sounds like a good idea until you have zero experience as a PI.

A fun 'cozy' mystery. I look forward to reading the rest in the series.

This book had a lot going for it, but in some ways didn't quite come together.

On the plus side:

I loved the gimmick-- new mom becoming a Private Eye.
Kate's character. Interesting, fleshed out, person I could identify with.
The setup for the mystery was good.
All the details about those first few weeks of motherhood.

On the minus side:

Too many characters meant we didn't get to know anyone other than the protagonist.
The writing never quite sucked me in.
All the details about those first few weeks of motherhood.

If the summary of the book appeals to you, go ahead and pick it up for a light read. You'll have fun.

I'm hoping there will be another book-- I'd like to get to know the characters better, I think the concept has some fun books in it, and I think the author is going to get better and better as time goes on.

I had a hard time connecting with the main character, but liked her enough to want her to succeed. The story overall was a comfortable read; definitely a cozy mystery. I am willing to continue with the series, so that's a good sign.
