What can I say? I laughed, I cried and I enjoyed so much! Such an amazing story, maybe my favorite of the 3?

This was an emotional roller coaster. Like, just... wow!

I want to preface my whole review by saying that I loved it. I went through a lot of emotions while reading it, not all of them positive. But ultimately, I loved this entire book. I am so happy I bought it and that it sits on my shelf. I'm so happy that Helen Hoang had the bravery that I feel it must've taken to write it in the first place so that I could have the chance to read it at all.

With that said... let's get into it. There will be spoiler type things ahead. If you've ready my reviews before, you know I always say that, I'm always paranoid about that, I always warn people. You've been warned. Go no further than this if you don't want spoilers.

Spoiler

For those venturing down below, let's start with Anna. I absolutely adore her. My dear, sweet, beautiful girl. I just wanted to wrap her up in a hug so many times and let her know everything would be alright. Every single time she felt like she had to overthink in order to interact with the world in general so she could fit in, or not offend other people, or be what society or her family wanted her to be... oh, my heart just broke for her! I legit wanted to cry! She's such a beautiful person with such a beautiful soul. She has such empathy really for the world around her, in my opinion. And she felt so bad so often for the times when she wanted to escape other people, escape those interactions, but that was only after she'd already been pushed past her breaking point and was still trying to keep on going. How this beautiful human didn't fall apart long before she did was a mystery to me, and when she finally did... OH! My poor, beautiful little friend! I just... I wanted to reach into the book and hold her so badly! (I'm literally about to cry all over again and I've already given myself a day to get over this. Good grief. Pull it together.)

Let's move on to Quan. I love him too. I've loved him from the start of the series though. He's always been the dependable one. And everyone had always known it too. From his mother, his aunt, down to his brothers and cousins, I swear. Everyone knows that when stuff really needs to happen, Quan is the one that can make it happen. Because he's the man that when he's in, he's all in. I also just love how he is with Anna. Like, of all the people Anna possibly could've met, Quan couldn't have been more perfect. She's this person who is just now trying to determine some things for herself, and he's the person who wants her to tell him what she wants, just straight up, so he can do that for her. No faking. No masking. Just honest.

I loved the journey these two went on, bumpy and at times painful though it was. I honestly don't want to spoil it too much. I want people to read this themselves.

I will say this. Of the three books, I think this one felt like the most emotional journey of the three, rather than a physical one. In fact, the last portion of the book isn't necessarily about the romance anymore, though Quan is certainly still present. That's more about healing in a different way, and I won't get into that. But I still think it's an excellent book, and it brings Anna's story full circle, which I am really happy we got to see because, like... I honestly would've been disappointed if we'd been left hanging wondering if she'd just gone back to playing in circles. (Don't understand what I'm talking about? Read the book!)

To parts I didn't like as much... well... they are the parts you aren't supposed to like as much. So kudos to Helen Hoang again for creating antagonistic characters that really grated on my nerves. First of all, Julian. This little... this just complete... I don't have the words to properly describe the level of asshattery to which this little asshat lives. At least, that's my opinion. He very obviously, again my opinion, was trying to take advantage of the fact that his girlfriend was so used to him and always doing what he wanted that he could just continue doing what he wanted and she'd just wait around for him and I... I... I just... I don't have words.

Rose and Suzie, returning to good people for a moment, are the epitome of excellent friends, even from a long distance. They immediately have their girl's back. Not for a second do they think it could possibly be anything she did, and they are honestly the encouragement that was necessary that jump started the rest of the book. I love them!

Moving on to Priscilla. I... I'm sure that maybe in some way I'm supposed to feel sorry for her or something. I don't know, maybe I'm not. I can't really tell. All I know is... I don't. This control-freak, who is for some reason the one who runs the entire family, exacts her high standards on everybody. Literally everybody. On her parents (who already have high standards), on cousins, aunts, uncles, and on her little sister. She exacts them on complete strangers, making nurses and doctors cry who are only trying to help. She's the most ungrateful human being alive that I've read in a book, I think, and then she has the audacity to cry when her feelings get hurt, and then she had the audacity to act like she never did anything wrong ever, and then she has the AUDACITY to later on have it mentioned that she'd upset that she's losing her sister and her dad at the same time because Anna won't talk to her anymore. WHY WOULD ANNA TALK TO HER?! YOU LITERALLY CALLED HER SHITTY AND WORTHLESS! (Basically!) LIKE... WHY?! WHY WOULD SHE TALK TO YOU?! WHY AREN'T YOU SAYING SORRY?!

In case you can't tell... I kind of hate her.

Anna's mom turned out okay. She started out kind of the same. She had those same standards, and viewed Anna as kind of a disappointment. I wasn't happy with her either when she kept pushing Julian at Anna either. Like... woman... what is your problem. But as soon as Anna finally pushed back. As soon as her condition became real and as soon as Anna finally started letting herself be who she really is... her mom seemed to sort of immediately start to accept it. Small changes were made instantly to accommodate and make things easier, and that swayed me towards her in the end.

I could probably write more... but I should stop. I just... ugh! I loved it so much! It's definitely going in my re-read pile. I'm so happy with these books.

not the cute light-hearted romance I was expecting this to be (like the others in this series), but it was a really good book in its own right

Did I read the third book in a series without reading books 1&2 first? Absolutely.

Anna is so cute and Quan is such a big teddy bear, I just want to hug him and never let go.

This book had me laughing, smiling like a psycho and crying like a bitch but it was amazing.

Anna's struggles really left a bittersweet taste in my tongue that I still feel even though I finished it.

I really liked the book and I just hope that my reader high isn't speaking for myself because I just finished the book. But yeah, would totally recommend it.

I was expecting a rom-com.

This was an emotional tragedy, that had an OK ended. The reader took this emotional journey with an extremely mentally unwell Anna.
