Enjoyable but was able to predict what was going on about halfway through.

A 30-year-old crime has haunted Jack for decades but he fails to discuss the details with his wife, Sarah. But when his aunt dies in a brutal accident (or was it), Sarah will stop at nothing to learn the truth, and secrets, that the family has buried.
I have never read a book by the author before but have always wanted too. And I think this one is a great start to the authors books. This is suspenseful thriller that will leave you gripping the pages until the very end. You will throw some ideas around your head about “who-dun-it” but your assumptions won’t be correct. This is a very well written book and I look forward to reading more by the author in the future.
So, what’s so great about this read? Well, of course the plot is what’s most interesting. A woman named Sarah is married to a man (Jack) that has been hiding secrets from her for the past 20 years of their marriage. So when they return to his sleepy home town in a rural farming area these secrets are unable to stay hidden. Sarah slowly starts to learn more about her husband -the stranger she married- and about his past. You see, his mother was murdered in his basement when he and his sister were just kids and now, 30 years later his aunt Julia is murdered in a similar fashion. Was he ever going to let her know about this? Or that fact that he and his father (who went missing soon after) were the prime suspect in the mother’s murder? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, Jack wanted his secrets to stay buried and you will have to read the book to find out why.
The other thing I really like about this book is the characters. Sarah has shown herself to be rather feisty, resourceful, and smart especially after being thrown through the loop and learning about Jack’s secrets. She is the one character throughout the story that readers can make a connection with and I really enjoyed her.
So why did I rate the book 4.5 stars instead of 5? Unfortunately, because I was able to figure out who the killer was before the end of the book. Had I not figured this out on my own it would have been an overall 5 stars. This really didn’t take away from my experience though and I did enjoy the mystery.
Overall, this is a great book especially being a “starter” book me to the author. I now can say that I will pick up more of the authors books in the future because she can clearly write! Do I recommend this book? Absolutely! Especially to those who enjoy a good murder mystery/ thriller / suspense book. This is one you don’t want to miss out on!
