Too short to review. It was nice seeing Royce and Hadrian being their usual selves but the story itself was just too short to have anything meaningful to say.

LOL. This was actually a part in The Rose and the Thorn. You may not want to read this short story if you had read The Rose and the Thorn.

Perfect combination of two characters. This is just my type of story. Can't wait to finish the rest of them!

Hadrian always a soft heart stops to see what the ragged dressed woman, tripping through the brush, is calling to him and Royce, his partner of just about a year, for help. There is an unknown man in her barn and she fears for her life. Hadrian wants to go take care of the problem, Royce is ready to move on but lets Hadrian learn a lesson on people.

I'm not going to say to much as it's such a short read and if I do I just might give it all way. I want you to go read this quick read for yourself and enjoy it.

First and foremost, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO READ THE SERIES TO READ THIS. Actually, you could read this to get a taste of Hadrian and Royce.

I loved getting to see these two characters again, Hadrian and Royce. I love them, Hadrian and his big soft heart and Royce with his syndicalism of the two. But the two together are fun. There are jokes, the familiarity of the two carrying on together, and a great story as well. I love the way Royce is and the mystery with him. Even knowing Royce after five books of the series I still love the mystery here. And do want to know more!

The nice thing about this short story is mention of some of the future characters in the series. You are introduced to some names and who they are, which will give you a little background for when you read the series. And yes, I think once you read this short story you will want the series. Michael has created amazing characters and a great world here that all should read. I do hope you go check this out.

Also included with this short story is the first chapter of Theft of Swords, to be released in November, then the next two books each month after.

A short, fun prequel story that focuses mainly on the relationship between Hadrian and Royce, this is perfect for old and new fans!

Review Taken From The Pewter Wolf

You can blame Book City Chick for this. Plus, it was free! How could I resist?

In this prequel short story to the series, The Riyria Revelations, our heroes Royce and Hadrian ride together when a woman rushes up to them, begging them to help remove a drunk man from her barn. And with this, Royce decides to treat his new native partner a lesson about doing good deeds...

Now, I'm not a real fantasy nut. I don't mind it but I always find going into a world of "full blown fantasy" a bit scary (never stop me from buying them or reading them. Or having them on my kindle...). But I hit a problem almost straight away. The length of of short story.

You see, it's very short and you had around 45% of the first chapter to the first book in the series and then you have around 11% of the author's note, explaining why he wrote the series and why he wrote this (and how he became published). So, 44% is short story. If I had bought this, I would quite unhappy over that!

But the story itself... it was ok. But it didn't rock my world. I like the idea of meeting these characters and seeing how where one was cold and ruthless, the other was more native and see how to the two worked together, or in this case, didn't.

But I got the feeling that this was more of an afterthought. I know authors do this kind of thing all the time! But I felt like I didn't really learn anything about the characters or their background or anything, really.

Sorry guys, this wasn't my cup of tea. But if you guys fancy popping this on your eReader, go for it! It's free for the time being so you can read this and make your own minds up.

Short and sweet, a good introduction, if not much more. Probably doesn't have to be read before the main series, could be even more enjoyable as snack inbetween.

I do not have to say it again, but short stories are so hard to review and mostly they just leave me, wanting more. Then there are the good ones. This one left me satisfied but also wanting more. In a good way. I was happy with the story I got but I also really need more since it was so good.

What I liked the most was the dry humor, or perhaps he was just series when he said those things ;) Oh just read it and see. A fun fantasy story, a perfect story to read while waiting for me, or as I did, in preparation to read book 1. And omg I want my pre-order book to arrive now!

If this is his style then yes I do recommend it to other readers.
