This book shaped my whole outlook for the literature world. You cannot truly comprehend this book unless you annotate and annotate...and annotate. There is so much information contained 'inbetween the lines' that you come to think of Frye as a literature genius. My copy of this book was annotated on EVERY SINGLE PAGE to the point where I could not see any white spaces left! It is this kind of dedication that 'The Educated Imagination' deserves, and rarely do I come across such a book that takes up so much of my time.
The Educated Imagination changed my whole perspective on literature, and life. It is a revolutionary masterpiece, and I would highly recommend this book to anyone with a thirst for knowledge.

I suspect multiple re-reads will be necessary to grasp the whole.
The ideas are important - nay invaluable - I think.
I wonder if reading the text while listening to his presentations would help with understanding the nuances.
I'm glad I recently read some of the books he discusses as they're helpful for glimpsing his arguments.

Notable Quote: You wouldn't go to Macbeth to learn about the history of Scotland-you go to learn what a man feels like after he's gained a kingdom and lost his soul.

This is a book for yearly rereading for ELA teachers. And any teacher really.

This is kind of 4.5 stars because it definitely requires a bit of discernment in places. But it's plainly magnificent and worldview (or at least literature view) forming. Excellent and well worth the time; just know it's dense so sip slowly!
