I enjoyed Spoiler Alert, but I enjoyed this one so much more. Alex is one of the most accurate portrayals of ADHD I’ve ever come across and I felt very seen in his character.

It was good. Not bad, but not great. Just good.

There were things I loved when reading — the first half of the novel is a lot better than the second half. I loved the bickering and build of the slow burn.

There are very few times I relate to a main character but Lauren was different. Having weight issues in a fatphobia society is unbelievable hard. Lauren had been through so much but still kept her chin up. I admired that of her character.

The fandom culture tied into the story was enjoyable. As someone who reads on AO3 it was fun to see fanfics in the book.

Overall the second half of the romance was fine, but I wasn’t in love with it. I wasn’t swooning or hurting from the light angst. I liked Alex, but I wasn’t entirely in love with him. He was really funny and his background was complex creating a contrast.

Tw: fatphobia (comments to fmc made by family members and strangers, airplanes), domestic abuse survivor (mentioned/mmc’s mother), sexual harassment, explicit sexual scenes, mental health in a hospital setting, violence

I really liked both characters, and I appreciated that their relationship developed slowly over months; no insta-love here. At points the book dragged and felt repetitive, though. Still, overall it was a very enjoyable read.

I think I enjoyed this more than spoiler alert overall although both were a lot of fun!
Alex was really the star of the story for me and made me laugh out loud several times but he and Lauren were both really loveable and I enjoyed seeing their relationship evolve throughout the book. I love a bit of a slow burn and this really delivered on friends to lovers!
Would recommend to anyone with a love for fandom looking for a fun light hearted read with some great characters.

This was a darling story, a new favorite of mine in the romance genre, and far superior to the quality of Spoiler Alert from my perspective. The characters are likeable and well drawn, and the love story is believable and touching. I found the sex scenes not to my personal taste but can't dock the story for that since that's just my own preferences. Highly recommended, especially if you like fanfic and hated the final seasons of GoT. 😏
