An incredibly fun romantic comedy that plays with all of our favorite romantic tropes. I love the reversal of the usual Sunshine and Grump trope (it's nice to see the male as the sunshine for once). I love the self-aware (and excitement) from the sunshine as the 1 bed trope from the fanfiction he reads becomes reality.

The fluffy and playful tone of the book does have a lot of heavier undertones to why the main characters are the way that they are that made me feel more connected to them. It was nice to see ADHD handled in a more realistic way as opposed to "fun and quirky :)" as well. We get to see real symptoms and the consequences, as well as the pros and cons of medicating for your mental health. I felt very much for Alex and connected with him way more than I anticipated. And of course, I will always love the plus-sized representation.

Thank you to Avon and Harper Voyager and Netgalley for the ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

I'll be honnest. When this was recommended to me I wasn't sure I would enjoy it. It was modern and to add to that set in Hollywood. Normally, two things that I don't typically go for, but I ended up LOVING this book.

The characters are fantastic! The banter is some of the best I have seen in a long while. Alex is hard not to immediatly fall for. He is a "delightful asshole", and respectful and caring. I knew in the first chapter when he apologies, I said "this is a good man." Lauren is definatly a character who you love more as she grows. They are both a delight and their challenges are met with realness and respect. Alex deals with guilt and ADHD, and they make this very realistic. They have it be something that effects his life, and keep it consistent through the book. Its a struggle, but he is medicated and it does a great job illustrating that. Lauren has burnout and struggles with outside influences of her body image. But I think the author handled it in a way thats not exhausting.

The references to pop culture and especially fanfiction are extremely funny. I haven't laughed this hard at a book in a long time. I think it was used in a really interesting way as well. It gives a place for Alex to work out frustrations. Alex was definatly a really nice change of pace. He's respectful, and isn't so pushing of his masculinity. He's smooth and suave, and just makes you laugh constantly. He has a huge heart, and he's just a very refreshing male love protagonist.

This book is so much fun! I definatly recommend it if you are 18+ as their are some spicy scenes.

Honestly, just a great Straight Romance — enjoyed this one as much as I enjoyed ALL THE FEELS back when I read that. Dade writes sensitive, thoughtful male leads and self-sufficient, smart female leads, which makes the two characters' growing and solving their problems together really engaging to read. The chemistry-building is perfectly paced, too! I sped through this one (despite my lateness in writing a review) and am really looking forward to the third book in the series.

EDITED MARCH 2024:

Weirdly, I had two separate reviews for this book, one from February 2023 when I read it and then another from December 2023 when I read the third book in the series and came to see what I had rated this book, only to... not find a review. (More proof that Goodreads is a hot mess, not like we needed that...) Also, in December 2023 I couldn't remember ANYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK, so I have to bump the rating from five stars down to four. I just can't in good conscience give a book 5 stars when I truly can't remember a thing about it...
