Possibly the best book I’ve read so far in this year. Incredibly addicting, fast paced, and the growth/developments throughout the months are *chefs kiss*💋  perfect perfect perfect ✨

The first half is slow. There isn’t a ton of world building but enough to understand the basic politics and geography. It’s a unique balance of humans and vampires. Normally there are just more humans and vampires are a fridge group. But it’s more split numbers wise. Although there are mentions of human lands.

Oraya is a human raised by a vampire. As the book says, vampire heart, human body. She doesn’t fit into either world very well. She’s fierce and special (hello YA tropes) but not a Mary sue. She has parts that aren’t like able. She’s kind of an jerk really. Raihn is a good male lead. He balances her as they ally together.

Plot was well done. Slow at the start but the twists and drama start about halfway through and the pace really picks up. Saw parts of the ending coming but not in the fashion it occurred. Worth a read if you like romantasy!

Took some getting use to, I was unaware it was a vampire story (my first one also) so that took some adjusting, but overall was hooked and enjoyed the story. Love the characters, loved the trials, found it very original and a fun read!

  • 🌶️1 ; there are a lot of tense moments and banter, but the book focuses on content not really spice.
  • I loved the dynamic with the main characters and truly enjoyed the banter/ wit. I saw good character development and found the characters lovable and easy to hate at the same time.
  • The story was slow to start but it picked up 1/3 of the way and the last 10% was wild 💯.
  • The author had an easy to read writing style that was focused on 1 character.
  • The reason I did not give this book a 4 or above was the world building was “ok”. The content of the book focused on a multiple part game, so in all fairness world building wasn’t fully necessary. That being said I wanted more backstory about the gods, previous main character battles, humans, other vampires, etc. This may be rectified in book 2. What is currently in book one didn’t provide enough world breadcrumbs for me to care about it.

What a cute little rom com. Dark, violent and raw.  I could see the ending coming from miles away and it took Oraya way too long to do the maths but given her history it might be understandable. Nevertheless, the book has interesting characters, lots of blood, and a predictable story but that didn't make it any less captivating.
