The main characters are amazing and the storyline is just as great. For any show, movie, or book that is a mystery I always try to figure out ‘whodunit’ before the end of the book. I’m Traveling Alone will make you question everyone and everything and you still won’t guess the end. The only reason why this didn’t get a full 5 star review was because almost every chapter in the beginning half of the book was introducing a new character with their back story. It did make the elaborate plot that much better but I did get a little confused at some points with the plethora of characters.
If you love Nordic Noir I highly suggest I’m Traveling Alone

There's something enticing about Scandinavian thrillers that shine through imagery of its cold landscape. While it's an interesting story, nothing really seemed to stand out and the parallel story completely fell by the wayside - I suspect this will be picked up in Samuel Bjork's later novels. This goes for the protagonist Mia, who I believe may have a greater role in the following books.

As there are so many components to the story, you won't feel bored as such - but it is still far too long for what it is. The killer is predictable - remember always suspect the extremely nice side characters. So it doesn't break out of the thriller mould unfortunately. Slightly disappointed after all the hype.

Overall I liked this story. It was a little too unbelievable, otherwise I would have given it a higher rating. But I liked how complex the plot was and it kept me guessing.

I enjoyed this book. Albeit damaged souls, detectives Mia and Holger are lovable and not at all forgettable. Interesting turns kept me guessing. Very much plot-driven but with a lot of character development going on at the same time. I'll read book #2.

2.5 stars, which was very disappointing because until the last quarter I thought it would be a solid 5.

I was thrilled by all of the complex connections between various happenings and eager to find out how it all made sense, but the ending was extremely underwhelming to me. A lot of things were just forgotten about or hand-waved away with the good old excuse of “well they’re crazy.” I didn’t feel like the basic elements of the crimes were adequately explained, never mind the more intriguing aspects.

I understand this may be due to the fact that it was translated, but a lot of the dialogue was very stilted and didn’t really give a sense of personality for any of the characters besides Mia, whose thoughts we were shown. I was uncomfortable with the portrayal of genderqueer characters as well - it was something I’d expect from a much older book than something published 10 years ago. They were treated as spectacles and oddities rather than people.

Some slight jumps in credibility when it came to seemingly plucking clues out the air, but tense to the end
