Graphic Novels are hard to rate. This gets maybe 2 stars for the story, 5 for the art.

Brutal pulp noir story filled with with half-naked bad-ass prostitutes with guns, a nihilistic cold-blooded bastard of a hero, mercenaries that kill for pleasure, abusive drunks, swastika-shaped ninja stars that slice off body parts, severed and exploding heads, and lots and lots of shooting and killing.

What is it with highly stylized, uncompromising, visually striking ultraviolence that's so fascinating? Why do we enjoy movies like Kill Bill and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (and Sin City)?

The art is stark black-and-white only, and might be the best I've ever seen (although admittedly, I'm a graphic novel novice). It isn't easy on the eyes, but it is extremely impressive. It works so well because it lets the story feature graphic violence while maintaining a clean look (in color there would be a lot of sickening blood red pages), without softening anything or taking away form the visual impact.

Not exactly a pleasant read, but it's a fascinating visual masterpiece.

It's rad. It's just rad. Even when I have moments of "eh, this isn't exactly my thing," it's still just a cool-ass story. Tell-it-how-it-is narration, everyone-with-a-gun attitude, breakneck-speed-in-every-direction thrills. Dead guy stirs up trouble for the hooker army of Old Town, and it could mean bad blood with the cops and the mob. So why not Irish terrorists? Why not a ninja assassin? Why not anything ya wanna throw in? Wacky and dope. Full throttle grin.

This graphic novel has all the grit and darkness expected from a Miller Sin City book, but for me, it has an extra level that wasn't in the first 2 volumes.

In the previous stories, the protagonist has influenced how much I liked the volume, and the story is almost solely focused on their plight. In The Big Fat Kill, I feel like the dynamics and politics of Old Town, the prostitutes, the mob, the police, are at the forefront and make for a fascinating dimension to the otherwise stellar graphic novel.

I really need to actually buy the other volumes, I am going to struggle without them.

Short and Sweet, this is a story about Dwight and the girls of Old Town dealing with the death of Jackie Boy, who is really doing too much and masquerading as something he isn't almost as a trap for breaking the fragile peace the chicks running Old Town have with the cops. Pretty much this story is a NC-17 Jessica Fletcher story with more twists and turns than the Audubon.

While I'm on Team Marv, this one will appeal to Dwight fans more than Marv fans, especially if you're looking to see more Dwight versus Manute action. Like the others the art is harsh and hard to look at, so if you can get past that this could be an okay read for the Marv fans and an excellent read for the Dwight fans.

Very entertaining, got to say my favourite from Sin City so far. Dwights monologues are the cherry on the top, and Miho, deadly as always.
