I loved Shelly Laurenston's 'Pride' series and I'm loving the 'Call of Crows' books too. They are funny and quirky. I love how we get to see characters from the previous book (Kera and Vig) but that it doesn't seem a continuation of there story, the focus is on Jace and Ski. I really like how despite everything Jace had to live through in her first life, she's still smart and strong enough to move on. I hope this series continues and we get to hear about her being awarded multiple PH D's in languages, but I can still see her being happy as the Protector's official translator. She seems like someone who doesn't need or want extra recognition.

Shelly is a master at world building. While reading this book you can actually imagine the crows as actual people living in the Bird house in California, living there lives during the day and fighting against Ragnarok at night.

I loved this book and would definitely recommend it.

Eh, not really my cup of tea. The characters were too much like caricatures for me to find it really funny, and the romance took too long to get going and had nothing riding on it--it wasn't really part of the main plot lines involving some kind of Norse demon coming back and Jace's husband coming after her.

So fun!

I adore this book! It is so fun and had me laughing so many times. It was also sexy and exciting. I really enjoyed their relationship, not only how it built but also that it was unique to them.

4.25⭐️ Yay! A love story for Jace. She was my favorite Crow in the first book. We love a feral baddie.  This book was packed full of action. The end was not as satisfying as I needed it to be but the journey there was fun! There was way more romance and found family in this one than the first one. I still can’t get enough of the way this is written. In some parts its told from one character’s headspace and then in others its told from a 3rd person everyone overview. The quiet but feral one with a heart of gold but can fall in love over the mental states of serial killers is so me coded. We also meet her grandma and now I know why she is so feral. Loved it!

Better than the first book, but lost me at hella lazy writing, e.g. “sitting Indian style.”

Ok, so I was on the fence after the last book, but it was accessible for 'free' on Amazon Unlimited, so I gave this book a shot. I even read the whole thing, but it was a bit of a... test of endurance at points. There are some huge issues that I had with book 1 that I was hoping would be resolved, or at least improved on in book 2. They were not. 1) There felt like several false finishes on the story because it was more important to tease another book than to finish this one in a pleasing manner (I don't think that was in my review for #1, but it's true). 2) There are plot elements teased that don't get resolved, and it almost seems like certain things, the author just forgot to give any payoff to. This continues in this book. This is actually the one that bothers me the most, if I had to rank them. 3) You have characters using really inappropriate language-- not because they are cursing, but because it feels way out of left field for certain characters to say certain things. For example, here are two quotes from HEL (yeah *that* Hel, God of the Underworld from Norse mythology): "I don't work for you, heifer." and "Okay dude, you really need to let that go already!" People of my parents generation don't even talk like this, and the author wants me to believe a deity that has been around thousands of years would talk like this? 4) The sex scenes continue to be laughably badly written in my opinion. I am not sure quotes about giving quotes, as these would NSFW. But for 64 words in a row, the author talks about the male-love-interest's penis as if it *literally* has a mind of it's own, with it's own thoughts and feelings. I am not exaggerating. In the middle of this passage, she actually uses the words "It was like the... thing had a mind of its own!" (I skipped the curse word because I don't like using curse words in my reviews.) It is super weird and uncomfortable to read.

Beyond any of this, I looked into the reviews for book 3 (if some of these plot elements were going to FINALLY be paid off, I might have tried to read it in spite of these failings), and the general consensus in the reviews I read was that books 1 and 2 were better than 3 anyway. So, hard skip. Series is dunzo for me.

Delightful contemporary action-packed fantasy romance centering female rage. Highly recommended, but read the series in order.

Very entertaining! Once again the romance is more of "on the side" vs. as a main focus but that's ok. The multitude of characters in this series had me hooked and completely entertained.

I really wish I could give this more than 5 stars, if only for the humour! :)
