DID NOT FINISH

This book was boring to me. Xenos is written in a way to accurately portray a stoic, military-type man - Eisenhorn in this story - writing in his journal as he navigates his job. There's a lot of fighting, which I don't usually mind, but not enough high stakes in the plot or reason for me to care about Eisenhorn as a character to really feel invested in his goals behind the fighting, I was just thrown in to a descriptive action scene in a bleak and dark world right out of the gate.

I understand that Eisenhorn has some complexity in his ideals that make him both an exceptional warrior and an empathetic human, which are both covered as the plot progresses, but to me, it's not worth slogging through the plethora of details I don't care about. Granted, I am new to the Warhammer universe - and if I'm being blunt, I don't think I care for the lore anyway, so that might influence my feelings.

In short, I felt that Xenos lacks depth and loveable characters.

I really struggled through this one.

I find the universe of 40k interesting and pretty cool, but I’m brand new to it. So that saying, so much of the terminology in this was foreign to me. The wiki was helpful, but I would’ve need it seriously every paragraph to make sense of something.

I liked the characters and their interactions, but I had trouble keeping up with what was actually happening. It started to click right near the end though, and I was enjoying what I understood.

I think as I continue to grasp this universe through the wiki, videos, games, and books, things will start to make a little more sense to me.

It is a solid book about the inquisition in the 41st milenium. I just can't seem to like it. Somehow, the voice of Toby Longworth brings me to sleep. But the story is full of mystery and the characters are good. Maybe you can enjoy it, but it is not for me.
