4.5– absolutely fantastic yet again!!! Lisa Genova is brilliant and creative and somehow always makes me cry in the best way. For anyone interested in Autism or personally connected to Autism or who just wants to know more- read this!!!!!

Probably would rate this closer to 4*

This is the tale of 2 women - Beth, a writer, who is experiencing marriage difficulties, and Olivia, the mother of a recently deceased child. Olivia's son, Anthony, had autism and was non-verbal, and died on an epileptic seizure. The women meet on Nantucket when Olivia photographs Beth's family. Beth has decided to try writing again and the story of a boy with autism who collects white rocks is what she writes. She writes the book from the viewpoint of nonverbal Anthony, and in a sense uses it as therapy for her own marriage problems.

Much of this book I liked but the slightly mystical 'Anthony speaking / voicing his life to Beth' and the sheer coincidences of the stories (which enabled the novel to be written by Beth) were a little far-fetched for me. I appreciate someone might see a character and write a story based on them but to be so accurate as to depict and entire life, I'm not so sure. I realize that the author, Genova, was using this as a means to connect the characters but...

Another stunning read from Lisa Genova, and an excellent inside and perspective on Autism.

Sadly didn’t love this one quite as much as the other Lisa Genova books! Main focus in this one was autism which is honestly one of my biggest fears as a prospective parent. I was hoping it gave a little more of the day to day insight but it was more about the two ladies’ lives at this point in time. Although it’s still one of my biggest fears, especially non-verbal forms, the author’s note and epilogue gave a good perspective that we are all humans and on the spectrum in one way or another.

I don’t often read passages of a book out loud but the explanation of the different “rooms” in Anthony’s brain was so good I had to share it with my boyfriend. Another good read by Lisa Genova!
