A lot of times publishers try to strike lightning twice. Batman: Year One was such a huge critical and probably financial success that DC Comics and other companies have tried many times to do other properties "Year One" style. I don't think they've been successful overall. Here, however, Andy Diggle and Jock have crafted such a remarkable story that this belongs right along with Frank Miller & Davis Mazzucchelli's Batman story. Diggle's version of Oliver Queen is maybe my favorite. His turn from nearly worthless socialite to emerald archer is fantastic. Jock's art is fantastic and fits perfectly. Overall, this book is tremendous. I can't imagine someone not liking this book!

A good introduction to the Green Arrow character. Billionaire playboy who saves and protects his city, yeah he fits the bill for many a super-hero stereotype. He's different though, and you can see that from the first 10 pages. He has more to fight for, more to loose, and he holds his honor above all else. One of the greats.

There we go, I just finished my first DC comic ever, and it was amazing!

The first comic book I have ever read. I was drawn to it because of series Arrow which is based on this comics and I am very happy to say that I like the comic version much, much better. I am sure this is not the last comic book on my reading list. :)

This is a nice modernization of Green Arrow's origin. It borrows from the tone of the "Arrow" t.v. show and borrows a few story elements as well. The art fits well with the tropical island theme. I would recommend it to fans of "Arrow" and anyone interested in a modern take on Green Arrow.

Typically I give 7/10s a four star rating, but this is more of a low 7 because I doubt I’d ever read it again. A really good origin story with lots of greatness in it that I didn’t connect to as much as the retellings of it that I’ve seen (the show genuinely did it much better in that fantastic first season) and read, with the pacing being super inconsistent in terms of being slow and then immediately action packed and then being interesting again before being a bit of a slog again. Very good, but it wasn’t for me all the time.
