The end was underwhelming, but the tale was so creepy. I hope there’s a sequel.

Wow great horror novel
Well Hanna is gonna probably give me nightmares for the rest of my freaking life. This is a really great book and I can't wait to start the sequel.
Full review: Honestly you can see both sides of Hanna (the young girl who thinks her mommy wears a mask) and Suzette (a woman who has a lot of medical issues that she still struggles with, who wants to be a good wife and mother).
I thought that Stage did a great job with this. At times I was like, so we just going fully dark here or nah? I do think that the dialogue and the different points of view between Hanna and Suzette really worked. Both of them, wanting the love of someone who seems obtuse at times about what was going on had me shaking my head.
It's hair raising and you have to wonder how are things going to go in the sequel.

Spoiler
the real horror wasnt the murderous child but rather parenthood in general and the (uncomfortably familiar) push/pull between the obligation to fulfill roles and our desire to be our true selves. also, the ending was surprisingly satisfying! 3.5 stars rounded to 4, i was actually yelling at the book during some partsalz11's review against another edition

This is not for the faint of heart. It was a wild ride but if you like being shocked by things...you'll enjoy it.

So far, the best book I’ve read this year! (At least out of the first time reads.) Also, another several reasons to not want kids. This terror of a child actually gave me chills and…really, you just need to read this yourself.

I don’t know how I felt about this book. So creepy and when you think it’s going to turn out better it gets worse.
