I'm an occasional fan of mystery and as far as mysteries go, this book was absolutely ridiculous. This isn't some Agatha Christie or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle—this is an absolutely bonkers, haphazard, at times extremely cheesy book to read. But I would be lying if I said I did not have a BLAST reading this.

Were the plot points too convenient at times? Sure. Did Pippa have absolutely no regard for danger? 100% of the time. Why were the suspects going around giving 2 page monologues confessing every detail of their crime as soon as they were accused by a high school senior who had, like, one scrap of evidence at most? I'm not sure, but I can say that they were not very intelligent criminals.

And yet, somehow... this was so fun. I don't know why—maybe because it was so out of left field that I couldn't really predict the ending, or maybe because I enjoyed following Pippa along on her dangerous antics, or maybe because Ravi Singh is so delightful and charming (and is applying to law school, twins?) that I just so thoroughly enjoyed this book. Don't get me wrong—this is definitely a story that requires you to turn your brain off and expel any amount of disbelief you have in your system, but once you shoo away that part of you that actually needs things to make sense? That's when it gets really good.

(also pippa kinda gave white savior-y vibes and the conversation surrounding racism and indian culture in this book is...meh at best so do with that what you will)

AMAZING STORY! From the beginning it was slightly slow, but it kickstarted pretty quickly after that. I will say I usually despise books with characters dying, especially animals. Barney dying broke me in two. He was mentioned several times throughout the book & once we got comfortable in knowing his “moves” he was taken away from us.

Like I said, I hate sad plots and death in books, but his death came to justice and that’s something to be happy about. The ending was the icing on the cake! LOVE IT.

This was more young adult than I expected in the sense that the character is still in high school. I still thoroughly enjoyed it though. You really don’t get much “high school” content, the events happen outside of school during the summer and after hours. The mystery resolution was well worth the read and came together well.
