I got this set of the first three books because it looked interesting and had pretty good reviews on amazon. The story telling is pretty good -- I've enjoyed it enough to buy the rest so far, and, they're quick, fun reads. In this particular case, the formatting suffered in the second and third books. There were no page breaks or even font headers for chapter breaks. While it didn't kill the experience, it was a little bit annoying. There have been small editing errors here and there throughout the series - instances where the wrong form of a word was used or one's fingers got ahead of one's brain (i.e., "you're" for "your" in one case, "dimply" for "dimly" in another). Since there's an editor attributed, this is somewhat disappointing to my inner grammar nazi. Still, fun read, enjoyable characters, nothing that requires one to think too hard.

Yes it follows a formula, but it's fairly well written and the characters are a fun, motley bunch. The author might take a shortcut or two to use "technology" to bridge some plot issues, like everyone speaks a different language.
