Liked it. These characters are only loosely connected to the Armitages - Brook is the cousin of Drew, the alpha of the escaped prisoner pair in the previous book, Lost Touch. That's it, though, it's really a standalone. That's great, love a standalone (more stories in a world I like is always a win) but also I missed the Scoobies, lol. I also desperately wanted a Dimitri chapter.

So Unexpectedly Good

I generally have a really hard time with shorter books because I feel like they tend to lack development of some sort.....but honestly, despite not getting to really see all of the relationship development that I love, this book did a great job. It gave me this sense of fulfillment because I just loved Dimitri and Brook together. They were so cute and fun in a lot of ways. I loved seeing them find their way to each other even though they were a bit slow burn about it (not necessarily in the physical sense. They were way spicier than I expected there!) This was short and sweet and fun read. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles and developments that I love, but it is a great book all the same. I would definitely read this again!

This was sweet, but I struggled with the fact that by the end of the book we still know absolutely nothing about Dimitri other than he's nice. Literally nothing.

reread: the way I jumped on this audio the minute it dropped

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
It's always a fun time to be back in the Mismatched Mates world,
one thing these books never are is boring, that's for sure

I was really intrigued by the dynamic set up in this book, and honestly,
you don't need to say more than ''fake relationship" to get me on board.

Brooks was super easy to root for, his family situation was so frustating,
and I loved how Dimitri stood up for him but also just was in his corner when he needed it.

Grayson is so great at shifter steam, and this was definitely one of my favorites in this series.
As always, I wish this book was bit longer so we could have a more fully fledged out middle or ending, but overall a great time was had by all.

Excited for an audiobook release so I can reread it!

The book did exactly what i thought it was going to do and i enjoyed every second of it.

[2.9] fake relationships of any kind are my siren call, so when i heard this had a mating of the business deal sort, i came huffing and puffing to line up.

we started off on the right foot, but the more i learned about Brook, the more i wanted him to shhhhhh

There is nothing I do not love about this series! Great world building and unique characters! Brook just wants to be the CEO of his company and have control of his own destiny! He decides to hire an Alpha to please his family. Lucky for Brook he ends up with Dimitri who is a sweetheart who has never been interested in men but takes the job for the money he needs. These two have so much banter and Brook is one stubborn guy! It is wonderful to watch him realize he can be in control in his life and still share and love life with an alpha. Especially one like Dimitri! All the hearts for Dimitri! Enjoyed watching him figure out that he does like guys or at least one guy! These two have smoking hot chemistry! I read an arc and I already needing the next book!

Angsty and Hot

Eliot Grayson has created another angsty, heated book that I couldn’t help but adore.

“The Alpha Contract” is the eighth installment (counting the novellas) in the ‘Mismatched Mates’ series, but this book is so loosely tied to the other books as to be functionally standalone. It name-drops one main character from “Lost Touch,” and that’s it. I love the series and I recommend it, but new readers shouldn’t feel pressured to the read previous books to enjoy this one.

This book plays on so many of my favorite tropes that I wondered if Grayson wrote it for me. “Fake Relationship” stories are my favorite. Grayson added “Marriage of Convenience”-feels which did not go astray. Grayson really gave me a present and put a bow on top just because they could!

Dimitri considers himself straight at the start of the story, so it touches on gay-for-you/bi-awakening tropes. Grayson does a good job of using Brook’s trauma-born defensiveness to blind him so that the reader understands things Brook doesn’t, even though it’s Brook’s perspective alone we get. Still, I would’ve liked it if Grayson had explored Dimitri’s inner experiences more from his perspective. I’ll admit that I’m hoping for a bonus story that will do that.

The ‘Mismatched Mates’ books are exciting and compulsively readable. “The Alpha Contract” is no exception. The story is emotionally gripping and dripping with angst, but it doesn’t drag out for too long. Interspersed are moments of tenderness that made me ache. I loved what Brooks and Dimitri built together. I’m sure I’ll be revisiting this one again soon!

short but good, was told just to read this one in the series and didn't get confused by the previous stories. Super fast paced. good scenes. only complaint it was to short, like it could have a media scandal and the horrid family could have been drug through the mud. I need the brother in jail for life and the dad dead. thaank you
