An old smuggler's inn by the coast, a family reunion, and Miss Silver. The some of descendants of Jeremiah Travenor come back to the old in - the family had split apart over the Jerimiah's will, and now there are 10 cousins who have never met each other (for the most part) gathering in the inn. Miss Silver comes at the request of the police, who wonder whether the old inn is still being used for smuggling - and are curious to find out what the point of the reunion actually is ...

A very tricky murder ensues, with a local inspector who thinks Miss Silver is making things unnecessarily difficult - but Miss Silver prevails in the end.

A locked-room kind of mystery. Jacob Taverner invites a group of his estranged extended family to a remote inn with a bad reputation. Murder ensues - potential suspects are many, but what could the motive be? Maud Silver is on the case.

Another fine Wentworth mystery. Not as great as Latter End, which I just read, because I wasn't digging this book's weird semi-abusive relationship that was presented as romantic. I know, it was written in 1949 but still....

The mystery itself was fun. I could have done with one or two fewer suspects. 13 is too many for my little pea brain. I like the spooky inn setting - it was like out of a Scooby Doo episode haha. All in all, a diverting and entertaining book.

This one has a cool setting (a mysterious and spooky inn) but the weakest Miss Silver entries are the ones where the surrounding characters have all of the survival instinct of lemmings. Lots of lemmings in this one. I do kind of like looking at how a single family had slowly branched into a number of different classes. Class is so rigid in Christie mysteries. Much less so in Miss Silver.
