it was pretty good. the book talked about dark topics and there’s a trigger warning in the beginning before you read it

So here's the thing: I genuinely wish this book had been like a hundred pages longer (less than that if it wasn't formatted so that it seemed like there was less text than normal on the pages) because I loved so much about this book, but that ending especially felt WAY too rushed. I adored all of the POV characters, and I feel like they were all distinct and compelling, but I wanted so much more from the third act. All of the character development seems to take place in a few sweeping chapters and an epilogue, and I just wish with how much I'd come to care about these characters that we could have actually gotten to see more of that development on the page. I really enjoyed this book overall, and I love Abdi Nazemian's writing, but the ending of this one just fell a little too flat for me to rate it any higher.

me: I need to be an academic weapon rn.
also me: *reads academia-setting book instead*

Look, I love boarding school and found family, but I would’ve focused on less POVs. Introducing everyone’s backstories and whatnot was confusing for me to keep track of so much so that I didn’t care anymore.

A group of introspective writers bond in an exclusive workshop at their boarding school and attempt to uncover difficult truths in their world. Crisp writing, fast paced, and ultimately satisfying (though I wish it were even longer).
