Beltrunner is an ok story about a man who gets the most game-breaking artifact that apparently has no inherent drawbacks except when Collier refuses to conform to society and give it up. I don't really feel compelled to read any sort of follow-up to Beltrunner, which is less to do with the plot and more to do with Collier.

Collier is (probably) the grossest protagonist I've read. He meets three named women throughout the story, and really the first thing you get from that is a description of their bodies, while the men receive no such treatment. Collier has sexual relations with two of these women, dismissing the third as being unappealing. He assumes that both women are using their sexuality to trick him. Worst of all is his complete inability to deal with hermaphraditism. He tries to slot everyone he meets into an assigned gender role and doesn't even attempt to understand the society. There are no negative repercussions to his actions and biases, which makes for a very unappealing character and world.

I might read a follow-up if it stars any other character, but I am done with Collier and his inability to understand anyone else's worldview.
