So sad and scary.

The story is worth reading and worth telling. I just wish that the author’s disdain for Iranians and their culture wasn’t as forefront and underscored as it in during the first half of the book. While she has clear and definitive reasons to dislike those who partook in her imprisonment, during most of the first half of the book and then less so throughout the rest of the text, she makes pointed vocabulary and tone choices that disparage the Iranian culture almost wholly.

I almost DNFd the book about 40% in but pushed through because I really wanted to know her story.

A book I read over and over!
dark emotional sad slow-paced

truly beautiful and inspiring! it is a shame that the movie left so much of the storyline out of it

In all the years I've been reading, I've never left a book unfinished. So, kudos to this book for being the first one in my DNF list. The blatant, unhinged xenophobia right from the start made it difficult to stomach. There was judgement in every statement, a sense of superiority in every page. And I thought it'll change, but no. It only got worse. No thank you.
