The topic is interesting, but the details are so clearly ham handed propaganda that it makes the book difficult to read. Yes, read it, but read Edward Said's "Orientalism" first for some perspective.
Interesting and thought provoking story, certainly putting you in the position to wonder what you would do. You can't help but what to know what is going to happen to Betty and her daughter.
A well-written work. I couldn't put it down, and I'll never forget it!

Tiesmukiška, be pagražinimų, labai gera knyga.

Not Without My Daughter is an astounding memoir that underscores just how little power women have in Iran. It's hard to believe Betty Mahmoody and her daughter survived their ordeal, but with Mahmoody's fierce persistence, they did. It was a harrowing escape, and I was captivated during this part especially. A movie version starring Sally Field and Alfred Molina was in theaters in January 1991 and is well-done but pales in comparison to its thrilling, emotional source material.
NOTE: Most who have read Not Without My Daughter are unaware that it has a sequel: For the Love of a Child. This gripping follow-up showswhat happened to Betty and her daughter after they escaped to America , while also explaining the heartbreaking phenomenon of international child abduction.

i liked it very very much. i read it during a trip to egypt and it kept me very entertained while I was on the plane. a lot of scenes gave me chills, just imagining what this girls had to endure saddens me a lot. I'm so glad when they finally escaped, which I knew it would happen bc i saw the movie years ago. i don't remember a lot of it, and i want to rewatch it now that I've read the book. I've learned a lot about iran and the islamic religion, I'm happy for having read it. very interesting, and betty narrates her story so good.
