THAT CLIFFHANGER!!!

Having an emotional break after that one. Wow.
It was everything I hope for when I pick up a book - engaging story line, the dreamy guy, relatable (ish) characters, DRAMA, the dreamy boy... oh wait I already said that! He was a good one though.
Having never experienced abuse before, I find it can be hard to relate to the characters sometimes, but Donovan managed to portray Emily in such a way that despite a world of differences I was still able to connect with her and sympathise with her. I wanted to crawl into the book and give her a hug. And give her aunt and uncle a piece of my mind.

Just read it.

DID NOT FINISH: 5%

The girl was tooo annoying and she think she is better than everyone and she just assumes without knowing like calling the main guy annoying even though he didn’t do anything to her he just minding his own business like what the hell go touch some grass

ya know. only took me 13 days to finish.

This book is heartbreaking and yet so hard to put down. I just...there are no words.

I just had to know how it ended for Emma, and if she'd make her escape from the hell she was living in. Her aunt has some serious issues, and I can't even imagine doing what she did. Cruel would be an understatement.

It's such a beautiful, emotional book, and my emotions were all over the place. I smiled, I laughed, I was angry and sad and cried by the end. It was hard to read at times, and it's definitely dark, so if that's not your thing, this might not be the best book for you. But it is such an amazing book, and I don't think I'll forget it anytime soon.

Donovan did a great job at showing what Emma was going through and why her aunt treated her the way she did. The characters were so real that you almost forget that it's fiction and not reality.

The ending...wow. I didn't see it coming, but it was fitting. I just knew I had to get the sequel.

It gets a 5 out of 5, and if I could give it a higher rating, I would. Even now, my heart aches for Emma. It's unforgettable, scary real and an emotional rollercoaster.

455 pages felt like an eternity, yet somehow still rushed

Yes! Please, no! The soul deep emotional roller coaster has been exhausting, exciting, disturbing, shocking and inspiring. I really tried, and failed, to remember Emma is a fictional character. Never have I cried so hard or laughed with such care. I was pushed out of my comfort zone and forced to read a perfectly written story about an extremely difficult subject matter. Never once did I want to stop reading. Though, I did stop to process what I read and slowed down to absorb it all. That is a testament to Ms. Donovan's understated elegance and perfect timing. Yes, I will read every book Ms. Donovan writes, which I pray is a lot more.

To say I loved this book is an understatement. Great Story & characters... Even thou at time you don't see eye to eye with the lead character, Emma, you understand why she does what she does. I was so emotionally attached to her and Evan that the end almost killed me! What a cliffhanger!!!!
I am glad I started reading this book when all 3 where out!
One of my favorite stories of all times.
