I really loved this book in my younger years. The thought of another world, where life was good and simple was very appealing. The young, lost boy trying to understand this world, that kind of thing always got to me emotionally.
Lately, I've been thinking about some of the books that I read as a child and this is one I kept thinking about. I enjoyed it as an adult too.
I read this as a child and plan on reading it again and then passing it along.
What a fascinating little story. I really enjoyed it. There was so much truth in its pages about life on this earth with so much hate, wars, weapons and evil. Why does life have to be that way? It doesn’t.
This was a pretty good pick by a member of my 3rd-grader's parent-child book club. Helped the kids grapple with questions of human nature (are we intrinsically good or not?), and whether humans could achieve a peaceful planet without fear, hate, discrimination, lying, stealing, etc.
Got this book from the Skidompha Free Library book in August 1983 on my first and only (so far) trip to Maine. Cost all of 40 cents. I remember reading this as a child and being fascinated with the story. What would be like to wake up in another world? Most people wouldn't be as good as the Bean family...

This was a favorite of mine when I was little, and all the more fun getting to read my mom's original copy from 1965. A great young adult sci-fi novel and a quick read. It's always a but if a risk reading a favorite childhood book; this was not as amazing as I remembered, but was one of the earliest sci-fi/fantasy that I read, and I influenced me to read more in the genre.
I remember reading this book in 6th grade and writing a book report in the form of making a mini book. I loved it then, and I loved it now. Of course, as an adult, I kind of wish it was more fleshed out. But it's a perfect read for a 6th grader! It's quick, it's very interesting, and it's suspenseful.
