I enjoyed we hunt the flame enough to want to finish the series, but the first 200 or so pages of this book was absolutely unneeded. There was a lot of repetition and it felt like the plot was dragging on a little bit at one point but then suddenly went from 0-100 towards the end of act 2. Act 3 felt anti-climactic to some degree and I craved more emotionally from these characters, because there were some moments that could have been incredibly powerful, but so much was lost in the prose, I found it hard to connect to some parts of it.

From a political/gender commentary standpoint, it felt very surface level, which I suppose is what you would expect from a YA, but there could have been opportunities to expand further.

I enjoyed it enough, but it did start feeling like a slog at some point :(

Oh my god. This book was amazing. This book gutted me in more ways than one. The way Hafsah writes about love, not just the romantic kind, but the love between a family and friends is just perfect. This book made me laugh out loud and cry all together. This was beautiful!!!! Highly recommend this series.

In no way did I know where the plots were heading, but thats what makes its such a wonderful read, an exciting adventure. By the end of it, I was left missing them for weeks, and it was hard to follow up with other books after experiencing this one. I have so much love for the zumra and this duology. It is just sO good
