4 stars and I say this because it’s 5 stars for Nasir and Zafira, for their character development as a couple and as individuals and all the scenes I got of their yearning and desperation. 3 stars for the plot because it really took a backseat after Act 1 I can’t lie. We met back up with the Lion at the very END of Act 2 and I forgot what the hell was going on because I had been so focused on my loves Zafira and Nasir. At least the plot and adventure in this was wasn’t as fever dream-ish as the first book was, not being a magical island really helped.

adventurous emotional funny hopeful mysterious sad tense slow-paced
Loveable characters: Yes

Never have I felt that much fear and anxiety while reading a book that a character I love would die at any second.

I feel like it’s been awhile since a book has made me weep at the end. Not because it’s sad but because i’ve spent so long with these characters and their stories and now it’s over.

The culture within this series is so rich, the characters so complex. And the YEARNING. The romance in this particular book especially towards the end is the very reason I read this genre.

I adored this.
