I have to let everyone know right now that I am not the same person that I was before I read this book.. I thought the first book had changed me but NO.. NOTHING PREPARED ME FOR THIS ONE!!!!!!
It has everything I could ever want in a fantasy book ESPECIALLY the romance between Zafira and Nasir and found family.
I also love love LOVED Altair with every fiber of my being it’s literally so insane. The beginning of the first book Altair vs the second book Altair is crazy to think about I can’t lie… Like at some points when I felt like I was getting bored Altair would come in and say something stupid.. LIKE GUYS HE’S MY HIMBO I’M SORRY BUT HE’S MINE!!!!!!
The actual plot line of the book is very similar to other ya fantasy books, however, Hafsah Faizal’s writing has made this very memorable to me. I cried during so many parts of the book just because of her descriptions alone, it’s insane.
There were so many important messages in this book, one of them being female power and I loved it!!! Zafira and Kifah slayed the entire book.
This is probably one of my longest reviews ever but this book will seriously have my heart forever and ever. NASIR AND ALTAIR ARE MY POOKIES FR…

Suuuper slow. And the romance was like 4 scenes and nothing more.
If you like books that you cant stop reading until you finish it this is not what you are looking.
I would have given it 2 stars but i really liked Nassir

"We're not falling apart. We hunted the flame on Sharr, set free the stars across the skies, but it was only ever the dawn of our zumra. Now we make sure that light doesn’t go out. Forever. Together."
This book is for you if... If you read the first one and are ready for the amazingness that is We Free The Stars.
I have so much I want to say but like most of my favorite books most of it is screaming. I've literally stayed up to 4am to finish this masterpiece of a book, In my review of We Hunt the Flame I had to make an edit of it because it had stuck with me for months after I finished it to the point I upped my initial rating of the book. I love We Free the Stars so much more, I came into this with ridiculously high expectations for it, and Hafsah Faizal's incredible writing, her characters and the world she created destroyed those expectations in just a few chapters.
I went though all the emotions, I laughed, and I cried while reading this book. Nasir and Zafira's relationship was exquisite, they've become one of my favorite book couples of all time, the ending they got was exactly what I wanted for them and more. And on top of that Altair is officially the best character I've ever read, his earlier chapters broke my heart, when he felt abandoned by the zumra, but his incredible planning and his amazing personality ugh I don't have enough words to describe my love for him.
I will happily say that I'm gonna read every book Hafsah Faizal releases, because her writing is just everything I love in a book, it's perfection. I just want more and more right now. I'm someone who usually could see where a duology could continue but how this wrapped up was so absolutely brilliant for all characters involved makes me completely satisfied with the ending.
CAWPILE Rating: 10.00/10
Stars: 5/5 Stars
Absolute perfection in the form of a book.

Oh My God. I was expecting so much from this book. I kinda liked the first book despite it being 3 stars and seeing this book rated 4 stars on Goodreads I went and bought it as soon as I finished the first book. I was really excited because I really liked the world building the setting which was ancient Arabian like and the villain’s backstory. But this book was such a let-down.
Probably one of the worst fantasy books I’ve ever read. Hear me out.
I had to force myself to read this book.
Normally in fantasy books when the world is falling apart due to an ancient enemy. So many of the leaders and soldiers gather around to defeat the enemy. The entire world is in an anxious state. But in this book it was just so weird that kids were taking care of the affairs. Albeit Altair and some of the safin are older but still and Haytham but still… only a few people and citizens are concerned about the world affairs. It seemed no one else cared for Arawiya. It seemed like people had no purpose. It felt weird how hardly any leaders wanted to bring The Lion down. Yeah the Sultan Ghameq was possessed but what about the other caliphs and caliphas. It was messed up. The only people concerned about this sorry state of affairs were a bunch of horny teenagers.
Which brings me to my second point. My God. Zafira and Nasir were the worst couple. I couldn’t stand their romance. The entire time they were yearning each other. Meanwhile the hearts are dying and The Lion is roaming free and these two just wanted to get together. I hated the romance. I wanted to read this book for the fantasy and adventure but the entire book was focused on their romance. It wasn’t as if I was reading an adventure/fantasy novel with bits of romance it was as if I was reading a romantic novel with a slight tinge of adventure and fantasy here and there.
I didn’t understand their love. She hated the caliph and she even hated the Sultan for bringing death. Yet the sultan was possessed but she couldn’t hate Nasir for the same reason. Nasir, who by the way, was sane the entire time. Who could say no to killings. It was weird.
I would have preferred a storyline of Aya and Altair. That would have been interesting. And what about Aya? I hated her character development. I couldn’t believe how quickly she shifted sides. She was a healer. She healed people. She brought care into this world. Her tattoo was Hanan which meant grace which was what she cared about. She lost her husband, her son, the man she loved AKA Altair how could she change sides just like that? With only a few words by the Lion? She was a Safin. She had seen the death and despair because of the Lion. She had went through pain and suffering. It didn’t make sense at all.
2 stars because the writing was stellar. The words and sentence structure was beautiful. The setting was beautiful but sadly this story did not struck me.
