I enjoyed the slow burn romance and the beautiful descriptive writing. The story was interesting if a bit slow moving and I adored the characters. The only thing I didn’t care for was the spattering of non-English words thrown in to the otherwise English writing. I found it a bit jarring as it wasn’t frequent enough to feel like a natural part of the story.

its a solid 4 ⭐ book!!

definitely better than the first book. i found myself caring for the characters more & i think i've gotten attached to them too. there was also actual character development. i understood the characters more, whereas in the first book sometimes i found some of them a bit annoying.

if i wasn't busy with work i definitely would've finished this faster!!! i'm happy but i want more of nasir and zafira like i wouldn't mind reading a spinoff about them and how their life is going right now ;____;

i genuinely thought i wouldn't enjoy this book as much and maybe just give it a 3 ⭐ but i rly loved it tbh

I started this book with the intent to finish the duology. The first book was beautifully written but lacking in action and very drawn out. It was hard to get through at times. This book is not that. This book is AMAZING. Tons more romance than what I was expecting; probably the most well written romance I’ve read in quite awhile. Excellent plot. Wonderful dialogue. And just a whole lot of fun. I will absolutely be reading the author’s future works!

DNF'd at page 135.

I found it really hard to care about this book because it was so slow and not much had happened in the 135 pages I read. Also the characters were so whiney and spent the whole time pining for each other instead of communicating so I found that frustrating.

I was so excited to get to this book after adoring the first book in the duology - We Hunt The Flame. It didn’t disappoint either, the tension remained high between Zafira and Nazir but I wanted them to get on with it much sooner! They danced around their feelings and didn’t communicate, it was frustrating at times. But, I still adored the magic system and the found family element of the book. Altair is still my favourite character, he is cheeky but we saw a much deeper side to his character. I was VERY happy with the ending too!

I knew this book was going to be good!

After several months of procrastinating the end of the Sands of Arawiya duology, I finally brought myself to reading We Free the Stars. This book gave me more angst than I ever thought possible, officially bringing Nasir and Zafira in the list of my favorite couples. While I did enjoy them a lot in the first book, the angst in this one makes up for their quick buildup. It was glorious. At one point I literally yelled “just f—”…well, you get what I mean.

The characters were a confirmation and a surprise at the same time. Zafira and Altair, I already loved, but Nasir turned into my thirst trap. I was wholly prepared to give my heart and soul to Altair one more time, but Nasir swept me off my feet. I love him. I think my sister and I have officially found our respective book boyfriends for the series. Order is restored! Another surprising character was Kifah. She was kind of overshadowed by the other characters in We Hunt the Flame, but she truly shined here. Kifah was the perfect shoulder to Zafira’s understandable brood, at moments witty and ironic and wise in others. We also got the opportunity to see more of Zafira’s sister, Lana. I loved her character!

The only sour note was the missing Storyline That Was Meant To Be. The ending of We Hunt the Flame had me believe we would be seeing a hate-to-love romance of epic proportions, but alas, it wasn’t the case. Either the author had to cut it out due to lack of page time, or she’s secretly planning to return to the world of Arawiya in the future. I truly hope it’s the latter, because there were a lot of instances where we’re teased just how perfect these two could be together, but for the time being I remain a little disappointed, seeing how much I was looking forward to it. Who do I need to beg for this to happen, pretty please?

In my heart, this is a five star on everything else, but because of the missing storyline, I’m bringing it down to four.
