3.5 Stars! - Twisted Fate was a good book I really enjoyed reading. It was a sweet, quirky, and charming romance story and I really enjoyed it. This is one of the few romance books I've read but definitely one of the better ones I've read. The characters were beautifully crafted, and the plot was engaging and interesting (which is something I find lacking in most romances). But going back to the characters, I loved them! Each and every character was so different and unique, and they felt very real. Real people with real problems.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for my honest thoughts/review

Are you a big believer in fate? I am not sure if I do. I believe very much in karma but I have never had a palm reading or anything along those lines. I do also believe that when things hit rock bottom, they can only get better.

I got into Twisted Fates very easily, managing to read the book in two days while working a full time job, go me!! The first couple of chapters are just perfect. I imagine that if I had been forced into what Laina had been forced into, I would have ended up the same.

The story follows Laina, the co-owner of a failing bookstore, who has no hold or control over her own life, she has lost all her faith and fight in life. When it comes to men, she is not interested as none of them will ever compare to her childhood love, Jared. However, when forced by her best friend to attended his cousin’s wedding, she meets Mason.

One thing I do believe is that we all take things for granted and then one day, when they when they are no longer there, we miss them. That was a very strong message I got from this book. Along with the message that you should go after what you want in life.

What I loved most was the range of emotions this book managed to erupt in me. The humor in this book is first class. I found myself laughing out loud so many times especially that wedding, that wedding made me die!! Literally the funniest thing I have read in a while. However, on the flip side there are some very emotional parts as our characters deal with loss and resentment, the sweet moments between family and friends. Any book that can create a so may emotions is one that I never forget.

I really questioned some of the main characters decisions. Some of the things Laina went out of her way to do are just not okay. I was glad when she got stuck in the bathroom because if she had succeeded in what she was planning, I would have hated her character from that moment.

The ending was another issue of mine. While the story line is not completely original it was still really enjoyable except the ending. The ending was very predictable, I saw it coming a mile off, it was so predictable. I think I have seen many films that have that same ending. However, I do understand that the way the author had set up the characters that the ending we got was the best ending for the book. I just wasn’t a big fan of it.

There is such a wide range of characters in this book. By far I think my favorite character is Preston. That guy right there is a man after my own heart. He is just perfect, so blunt and straight forward and he has fabulous dress sense, seriously what I not to love? While he is so blunt, he does it with love for the people in his life; he is always trying to look after those he loves. Then on the other side Mason. What a douche! If there is a character that you wish bad thing to happen to it him. His generally attitude and behavior just makes me want to punch him (yea I know he is not real).

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a sweet and funny yet emotional. The story is well written and the authors writing style is amazing and story has a simple effortless flow. My only issue is with the ending, I really don’t like the ending.

Twisted Fate follows the main character Laina, a bookstore owner who is still struggling to cope with the loss of her brother and cannot get her childhood sweetheart out of her thoughts, dreams and mind. Fortunately she has Preston her best friend, roommate and co-owner of the bookshop to get through everything.
💚
LOVED : I adore Preston, I actually think he was my favourite character in the book, he reminded me so much of my own best friend, the no nonsense advice and attitude was everything. I loved the amount of times this book had me laughing out loud, from Bridezilla to Laina being locked in the bathroom (which I'm glad happened actually! I wont explain why spoilers!) I spent a number of times awwing (just New Years Eve awww!) and just squirming from embarrassment (throwing up over your date is easily a thing not to do)
💚
DIDNT LOVE : Now I hated Mason, he just irritated me as a character, his complete ignorance and just general stupid and unsupportive behaviour, yeah I didnt care for him. Plus it broke my heart with Preston's relationships breaking down.
💚
REALNESS : I just felt reading this book that I was watching a Rom Com, and i felt a lot of the emotions the characters went through during this book, I felt that Laina was so relatable, I felt her pain when she lost numerous people and the experience with the storm hurt, but I was so proud of her for giving up drinking and turning her life around!
💚
All in all despite the predictable ending (but hey who doesn't love a happy ending?) I really enjoyed the book, I dont usually go for romance novels but I am so glad I signed up for this one, it was the happy go lucky pick up I needed. Such a lovely book, despite some disasters, and it truly does make you think, Do you believe in Fate?

Synopsis: Laina Jorden’s Shakespeare-themed Staten Island bookstore is on the brink of failure. She can barely drag herself out of bed before lunch. She rarely picks up after herself, and she’s lost her belief in fate ever since her childhood sweetheart moved away, leaving her broken-hearted. Any man she meets is quickly kicked to the curb; they can’t compare to Jared. But when Laina’s zany roommate forces her to attend his cousin’s wedding, she finds herself walking down the aisle as an emergency bridesmaid in a dress meant for a woman nine months pregnant. Even after drinking too much and setting her dress on fire, Laina manages to catch Mason’s eye. But a few months later, while she’s meeting his family in the Bahamas, Laina realizes that Mason’s stepbrother, JP, is none other than her old flame Jared. Is it too late to untangle the web she’s twisted in? Determined to find true happiness, Laina must uncover secrets and balance friendship against love as she fights to regain her destiny.

Review: Overall, this was a very enjoyable book! I loved the character development and world building. I thought the writing was well done overall and the plot was interesting and intrigued me from start to finish. The pacing was also very effortless and the book flowed so well.

However, I did feel like the ending was a bit cliché and the decisions some of these characters made… it made me question my love for them.

Verdict: A great book!
