ALEX IS BACK! I couldn’t decide whether to laugh or cry when I found out that I had MISSED the release date by months. Nobody told me!!! *sadness*

I couldn’t stop turning the pages, up to and beyond the point of potentially missing out on Very Important Things like creating cherished memories and … sleep.

The only strange (not bad, but strange) thing about the reading experience was that at least two major plot lines were extremely similar to the TV show. I don’t want to speculate, but it feels like they were taken directly from the TV show and placed into the book.

Please understand: The TV show is my absolute favourite and it’s by far the best book to screen adaptation I have ever had the honour of witnessing.
However, the two universes should have been kept apart. The “book” versions of the characters and world and the “TV” versions are quite different. In Nightshade Revenge, they got mixed up in such a way that I couldn’t keep Season 2 and this book apart in my mind. Truly new and original scenes were jarringly put next to “already seen before” scenes.

I wished that Alex had more genuine interactions with Tom, which were unfortunately kept quite short. In fact, the relationship between Freddy and Alex was far more developed than the relationship with Tom. Tom also made two big mistakes throughout the story that weren’t addressed.

Apart from these minor setbacks, it was a thrilling adventure. I cried at least once, if not several times. Keep them coming! I hope dearly that it’s not the last Alex Rider book or story. I do so hope for more seasons of the TV show. I will NEVER get enough.

i was a bit nervous before reading this book because i read some (spoiler-free) reviews beforehand and they weren't that good, but i actually really enjoyed it! as with the last book, probably in part i enjoy these so much just because of the pure nostalgia value from when i was younger, but still i thought it was a nice easy read and the storyline was pretty good. it felt different to how i remembered the rest of the alex rider books but in all fairness i read them like four years ago now so maybe i'm just remembering badly - i think it just felt a little more choppy as one second alex was in london then paris then san fran. i also thought it was really confusing when
MI6 just catapulted him into Wilbur White's garden and expected the guy to talk to him when alex had just appeared in his house out of nowhere, but i did enjoy that smithers made a comeback. i also loved the ending when the numbers all turned on the teachers and got away to safety although i was so sad that freddy didn't make it, and the fact that sabina is make a comeback is lowkey so funny but nice nonetheless.
overall, i enjoyed reading this and if there's another one (who knows, at this point poor alex is going to stay in secondary school forever) then i'd definitely pick it up.
