This was a quick read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The magic was interesting, and I loved the chemistry between Maeve, Fiona, and Roe. They honestly made the book for me. And I can't wait to see what comes next!

I was into this. So into this.

All the characters were great. The humour was working for me. I adored the illustrations of all the Tarot cards scattered throughout the book.

There was so much I was surprised by because I was not expecting any of it: the Filipina rep, the disability rep, the 2SLGBTQIA+ rep, all of it was not something I was under the impression I was going to get to experience, but I did and it was so welcome.

This book covered so many themes like depression, gender, class, religion, bigotry, bullying, race, friendship, sexuality, coming out, spirituality, family, sibling dynamics, individuality, etc. The list goes on. I found it was done so in a way that was genuine each time, even if a lot of the themes were not developed or explored as thorough as they could have been.

I really liked the characters as well. Everyone was distinct and unique and flawed with insecurities and felt very real. Maeve’s internal monologue was fraught with dark thoughts and sometimes malevolent inclinations and I lived for how messy of a mind she had.

I wasn’t expecting the religious cult. But I thought it worked.

I was a little confused on the whole soft magic system and how it all worked behind the scenes, but it didn't detract from the plot, so it was fine. The romance between Roe and Maeve was tender but still realistic and I thought they made a great pair.

The plot was solid, the pacing was strong, and though the ending was not exactly what I would've chosen myself, it does set everything up for the sequel, as this is the first book in a series, and I'm invested enough that I'm down for continuing on.

I'd recommend this for anyone looking for a well-structured YA fantasy that has an interest in tarot cards and the occult, and is not opposed to some cute YA romance.

And shoutout to Stefanie Caponi for all the wonderful illustrations and the cover art because it's all gorgeous and stunning and I genuinely think this one of the greatest covers to come out this year.

I've been excited about this book for a while. And with good reason since it lived up to everything I wanted from it and more! I wish this was better advertised as being a super queer book. While the MC is straight, her sister is gay and has a girlfriend. The love interest is bi and gender nonconforming. The book deals with hard topics and the way progress ignites hate. But it was fantastic.

This was one of my most anticipated books of 2021 and it did not disappoint. I loved the way it took the tarot and modern witchcraft and wove it into a mystery that kept me on my toes to the end. I loved the characters and their relationships and progression. Just brilliant.
