i liked this! I will say, there’s a lot going on at once and it does get a bit jumbled and quite confusing at times.
like I’m still trying to understand the whole housekeeper thing and how it played into everything else..

this book seems like the perfect set up for the next one, so I think I’ll probably enjoy the second book more.
especially since they will already be witches, I think it’ll be more fun to learn more about these characters and their relationships

Protect Roe at all costs!!!!!

This was a good book to read in October even though this month isn’t Octobering the way it should be.
It was fun and a little spooky (but not really) and I’m excited to get to the next one :)

I really enjoyed this. I don't always get on with YA these days but something about this made me think I'd like it and luckily my instincts were right. There were so many elements that worked for me - interesting characters, coming of age themes and witchy vibes. I thought the magic was woven into the real world in a really clever way and I'm interested in seeing what happens next. I don't think I'll get to the sequel soon but I will definitely read it.

I really enjoyed the creepy vibes of this story, but I think perhaps I wasn’t the intended audience. It’s very…teenagery, which like, yeah, it’s a young adult book. But it’s also very drenched in the complexes and arrogance of the stereotypical 15-16 year old.

I enjoyed it, though! I like Maeve and her inability to express her feelings. I also liked Fiona, she was fun and made it a little more lighthearted.

I may or may not pick up the sequel.

Okay, I enjoyed the LGBTQA+ aspects of the book. As a queer person myself, yes, it was good. Although I think it was pushed too hard. And maybe the book was supposed to be all about the community but it felt like too much. We have Roe, a queer questioning gender character and Fiona a POC with stereotypes galore. It was a good read but it pushed too much on trying to be different in unique in aspects of character creations. I am all for having diverse characters but whenever they are mentioned it’s all about their struggles as a POC or Queer person. A person is more than their gender/sexuality/race. And I believe the story is trying to tell that but doing it terribly. Cute story though. I’m a fan of first loves/young love so I really liked the scenes between Roe and Maeve!!! May or may not read the next book!

The book is very engaging with a refreshing take on magic. It has a good exploration of it’s characters even if they aren’t always likable. A solid read but gave me secondhand embarrassment sometimes lol.
