I'm just not quite sure how to rate this, or even really review it. I think it's aimed at middle grade readers, but I also think they'd find it a bit boring. It definitely reads "young". There were some interesting concepts here, and I thought at the beginning of the book that it was going to be better than it was.

The meteor showers dropping stuff from other worlds seemed really interesting. And then what we got was a chase with a train ride, a bit of a reveal at the end, and that's about it. I kept waiting for more, but it just wasn't delivered.

The world building could have used a lot more work. And I never really connected very much with the characters. A lot of my disappoint could be that I'm reading at the same time Brandon Sanderson's Words of Radiance. And this just extremely pales in comparison with the richness of his writing. But at the same time, I think I would have been disappointed in this one regardless.

A very entertaining middle grade book. The more advanced readers in my class would enjoy it.

Such a fun read.
Loved the idea of a place where other worlds lost items come to the Merrow, and a lot of creative ideas. Exciting for any of the targeted age range.

There were points where I yelled at the book (kinda literally, actually) for PAGES before something happened, because I'd seen what was coming, but kudos for throwing me the best plot twist outta nowhere toward the end. (Not completely out of left field - it was believable, I just didn't see it coming.)
Definitely two thumbs up, except for the places where the pacing stuttered a bit.

Hmm. Not bad, not bad at all. (Pretty obvious that *spoiler* Anna was a machine though. I guess I am just smarter than your average middle schooler!)

I LOVED THIS BOOK! I read this book years ago as a kid and it's one that really got me into reading again. Thinking about how excited I was to get home from school so I could spend hours reading this book is what finally drove me into reading.

A solid start to potentially a great series. 13year old orphan, Piper, finds an injured girl, Anna, who turns out to be more than meets the eye. Despite the book having a bit of a slow start, they end up on a great adventure trying to find Anna's home. They make great friends and in the end find what they are looking for but still left room for another great adventure in books to follow.
