A heavy but amazing read. Earnestly and honestly unpacks his presidency - the good and the bad. Lots of reflection. Lots of vulnerability. It did take me a while to get through lol but was really worth it. Will definitely be reading the future Part 2

I finally finished! Dense political books can be kind of a slog at times, but it was worth it for how much I learned.

One of the issues I have with autobiographies is that they can be a bit... self-congratulatory. This book could maybe be described as perhaps a bit self-congratulatory.

This book covers Obama's life up to the point that a US SEAL team killed Osama Bin-Laden, during his first term as President.

It wasn't a bad read. You'll get a sense of how Obama thought about the issues he was presented with. He even addresses some of the dumber allegations against him (like the whole birther nonsense), but the whole book had a feel of one of those interview questions, where someone is asked what their biggest issue is, and they reply that they're too hard working or driven.

You'll enjoy the book, if you enjoy books of this type, it'll just feel a little saccharine in places, and remind you that not all "women are strong, men good looking, and children above average."

It took me forever to finish this since the book is so long, and I don't have any particular interest in American politics and economics, and I only managed to do so because of the audiobook version ( Obama as a narrator is great, regardless). I enjoyed the humor, humility, and overall, the humaneness of Obama, especially when he recounted days of his youth, his shortcomings, mistakes, his roles as president, husband, father, son. Do I think it could be shorter? Probably. Still, it was a worthwhile read

This was a very good book. It delves into Obama‘s first term and the rationale behind policy decisions. I enjoyed the majority of the book, but had a tendency to get bogged down (and slow down my reading) with some of the more intricate policy talk.
